Easy Instructions
In addition to the video tutorial, here are the written instructions with the corresponding video time stamp. 😘
STEP ONE (OPTIONAL): (0:00-0:24)
- “Clean” your cake with a Portable Steamer
- Removes Powdered Sugar residue
- Makes Fondant clean and shiny
- Place cake back in the refrigerator to chill for 5-10 minutes
STEP TWO: (0:25-2:33)
- Gather the decorations you’ve worked hard to make and prepare to have fun!
- Attach rickety porch railings and creepy front door with melted chocolate, reinforcing joints as you go with more melted chocolate
- Attach Spooky Chocolate Trees to board with melted chocolate
- Secure trees to board by piping melted chocolate around the bottom
- Note: One of my trees broke 😢 (Shhhhhh… Don’t tell anyone!) I just glued it back together. Chocolate really DOES fix EVERYTHING!!! 😊
- Secure trees to board by piping melted chocolate around the bottom
- Place cake in refrigerator to chill for 5-10 minutes
The spooky trees, rickety porch railings and creepy front door are glued in place with chocolate. Put cake back in the refrigerator so the chocolate will harden.
MAKE FLYING BATS (2:34-4:38)
- Roll out black fondant (1/4 – 3/8″ thick)
- Cut out bats
- Shape ears
- Poke hole through wing (GENTLY or you will deform your bat!) with needle tool
- Dip noodle in piping gel
- Insert noodle into hole (again, GENTLY or you will deform your bat!)
- Fix bat shape (it will squish some no matter how gentle you are)
- Smooth out any marks on the bat shape
- Glue tiny orange sugar pearls in place for eyes using tweezers and piping gel (see video 4:12-4:38)
MAKE FLYING GHOSTS (4:39-6:18)
- Roll out white fondant (1/4 – 3/8″ thick)
- Cut out ghosts
- Smooth edges
- Imprint with face
- Cut noodles to size (if needed)
- Poke hole in tail or belly (GENTLY or you will deform your ghost!) with needle tool (see video 5:30-5:50)
- Dip noodle in piping gel
- Insert noodle into hole (again, GENTLY or you will deform your ghost!)
- Fix ghost shape (it will squish some no matter how gentle you are)
- Smooth out any marks on the ghost shape
- Roll two tiny balls of black fondant for eyes and press in place with ball tool (see video 5:50-6:16)
- Optional eyes: tiny black sugar pearls for eyes
PATHWAY AND GRASS (6:19-7:00)
- Follow the pattern of your intended pathway layout
- Pipe melted green candy melts, spread lightly with spoon and press pathway stones in place
- Note: My pathway broke, so I did it in sections 🙂
- Pipe candy melt grass
- Attach other decorations in place with melted chocolate
- Sprinkle crumbled leftover chocolate cake around tombstones for dirt, adding bones and bugs
- Place in refrigerator to chill for 10-15 minutes
Almost done! Place cake back in the refrigerator to chill. Last step will be to add ribbon, flying bats and floating ghosts. 🙂 - To finish your board, glue 5/8″ black ribbon to the edge of the cake board with a hot glue gun (not shown)
ADD FLYING BATS (7:00-7:19)
- Determine placement and angle
- Poke hole with needle tool
- Dip noodle end in piping gel
- Insert noodle into hole
- Trim noodle if needed
ADD FLOATING GHOSTS (7:20-7:43)
- Determine placement and angle
- Poke hole with needle tool
- Dip noodle end in piping gel
- Insert noodle into hole
- Trim noodle if needed
Place cake in refrigerator to chill and take a bow! 🙂
Unless you are like me and finishing the cake just as it’s time to leave for the party LOL 😜
