When a mouse is in your house, do you…
Gasp and shriek when it lets out a squeak? š²
Stand paralyzed in great surprise?
Run for aĀ chair and get up in the air?
Close your eyes and hope it dies?Ā š£
Grab a broom and scoot it from the room?
Don’t be shy, look up to the sky…
Breathe in deep and do not weep.
Rather than panic and run to the attic,
Let’s be silly and think of things frilly.
With ruffles and bows and a cute little nose
THIS little mouse wears a skirt and a blouse.
So may I advise, keep your eyes on the prize?
For cutters and molds we will soon utilize
To make funĀ decorations and customize
A cake the whole world will recognize.
Have you figured it out? How this allĀ applies?

Have you ever met a 9-year old girl who is just so sweet you could squeeze her? Well, Avery is that girl! Having met her mother, Iām pretty sure I know EXACTLY where she gets her pretty smile, kindness and sweet spirit.
For her birthday, she really wanted an adorable Minnie Mouse Cake⦠How could I resist?!?!?!? Well, the answer is: I couldnāt!
So after working out all the tasty details, I began to work my magic.
- Two very tasty layers of Sinful Decadence Chocolate Cake with White Chocolate Buttercream Filling
- More OMG delicious White Chocolate Buttercream covers the cake (in beautiful shades of white and pink)
- Hand-painted fondant decorations (except for the Disney Minnie and Pluto toy toppers provided by Mom)
- Sparkles⦠LOTS of sparkles for the very sparkly birthday girl!
And⦠VOILA!!! Ā This adorable Minnie Mouse Cake was ready for delivery to the adorable little birthday girl’s party!
Avery was all smiles when she saw her cake! But her eyes REALLY lit up when she saw the softballs⦠You see, she knew all about every detail of the cake (because she had helped design it) except for the softballs. Mom and I had spoken about adding something that was just for her, and apparently she LOVES softball! So we decided to keep it a surprise. And since the theme was all in pink, I just HAD to add pink stitching so it matched ā YES, I absolutely HAD to!!!
Happy Happy Birthday Avery!!!
Now… On to the tutorial – Let the FUN Begin! ā¤ļøļø
Fondant Cutters and Molds
There are many types of tools available to help you customize your decorations.
In the video below, you will see howĀ I used a hexagon cutter, miniature fondant baseball/softball mold, tiny ball tool and edible paintsĀ to make these adorable cake decorations.

No Limitations…
The methods used to decorate this cake are not limited to Minnie Mouse…
Whatever the theme, use your imagination and have fun!Ā ā¤ļø
Remember to plan ahead if you can. These decorations shouldĀ be made ahead of time so they have time to dry and are easier to handle. Simply applyĀ the decorations to your freshly frosted buttercream cake, using buttercream as “glue” if needed. Add a fun border and any other designs you would like, and place in the refrigerator to chill.
Then sit back, relax, and prepare to see happy and astonished faces when you present your custom decorated cake!
